LVX-1 (2024)

An art experience by LB²

Description By encoding our humanity into Artificial intelligence (AI), we create a perpetual reflection of ourselves. LVX-1 is an art installation that offers a gateway between our collective consciousness by offering a dynamic mirror of human emotions displayed through the collective dreams of humanity. Conceived by the LB² Artistic Duo, LVX-1 invites viewers to contemplate the intricate relationship between emotions, technology, and the shaping of our collective destiny. Viewers' emotions are blended to explore humanity’s latent space, creating a cybernetic loop between motion, emotions, and self-reflection. With rising uncertainty regarding humanity’s future with AI, LVX-1 stands as a testament to the power of human agency. Our emotions, the driving force behind our decisions, are captured and reflected upon a white canvas, projecting the dreams and aspirations of both humans and machines. Concept

Conceived as a collaboration between the LB² Artistic Duo and cutting-edge machine learning algorithms, LVX-1 is an immersive art installation that creates the illusion of a mirror by reprojecting a 1:1 scale diffusion to the viewer. At its core, LVX-1 challenges the dichotomy between humanity and technology, proposing instead a symbiotic relationship where both entities contribute to the creative process. By harnessing the power of facial recognition, emotion detection, and AI-generated imagery, LVX-1 transforms the unconscious act of emotional expression into a dynamic and interactive experience. Through its real-time emotions blending of aesthetics, LVX-1 serves as a conduit for self-exploration, the human self as well as humanity’s self. By exploiting the multidimensionality of AI systems, it acknowledges that emotions are not monolithic entities but rather complex amalgamations of disparate feelings, often intertwined in unexpected ways. Therefore, LVX-1 offers the viewer a nuanced portrayal of the human psyche, one that embraces the richness and diversity of emotional experience.

Impact

Through this immersive experience, LVX-1 prompts viewers to reconsider their relationship with technology and the role of emotion in shaping human interaction. By confronting viewers with the dynamic interplay between human expression and AI-generated imagery, LVX-1 questions our interactions with AI systems. Inside the real-time exploration of the latent space, LVX-1 allows an embodiment of the biases shaping our collective consciousness embedded into the weights of the diffuser algorithm. Ultimately, LVX-1 leaves a lasting impression on its audience, inspiring them to explore the boundless possibilities that emerge when human emotion meets artificial intelligence. By inviting viewers to participate in this transformative journey, LVX-1 empowers individuals to embrace the evolving relationship between humanity and technology, paving the way for a future where creativity knows no bounds.

Roots and References

LVX-1 anchors itself in the lineage of pioneer artists such as Vera Molnar, Casey Reas, and Manfred Mohr, exploring the aesthetic possibilities of collaboration between humans and algorithms. When previous AI art installations such as the ones from Collectif Obvious or Refik Anadol have explored pre-rendered slices, and fragments of data encapsulated, LVX-1 offers an ever-changing journey through machines Imaginarium. LVX-1 epistemology finds its roots in the veil between art, science, and engineering standing on the shoulders of inspiring humans such as Frank Molina, Ivan Sutherland and Fei-Fei Li. LVX-1 could not have existed without the never-ending work of scientists pushing the boundaries that allow the deployment of its real-time symphony of AI systems. Finally, LVX-1 finds its name in Robot Dreams, an Isaac Asimov short story exploring the imbalance between robots and humans in a futuristic society. Other works such as the Bobiverse Saga from Dennis E. Taylor were a source of inspiration as an exploration of the dynamics between artificial beings and humans. Find LB² on Instagram: @lb__square
